Home Scheduled for Demolition Becomes Training Ground for Firefighters

Live Fire Drill

Monmouth Custom Builders decided last month that a client home scheduled for demolition could do some good in the community before it was knocked down. MCB donated the building to local fire departments to be used in a simulation fire drill, helping firefighters receive valuable training.

“The fire departments in our area are volunteer squads, and they don’t always have the resources or budget to hold training drills as often as they would like. Since it was slated to be torn down anyway, we thought this house would offer our volunteers a perfect opportunity to hone their skills.”
– Ike Levy, Founder, Monmouth Custom Builders

Fire departments from Wanamassa, Deal, Allenhurst, and Oakhurst convened at the house, preparing it with smoke bombs and dummies to simulate a house fire. The ensuing scene was exciting to behold; 5 fire trucks with lights blazing, two ladders extending into the house, two ambulances, and 25 firefighters in action. As smoke poured out of the windows, firefighters climbed ladders from their trucks to practice home entry, strategic window breaking for ventilation, cutting holes in the roof with chainsaws, and performing search and rescue operations — their coordination was impressive to witness. One firefighter at the scene noted, “We only get to do this once, maybe twice a year.”

MCB is proud to have this opportunity to give back to such dedicated volunteers who commit themselves to protecting the homes we build, and to the safety of our entire community.
